3M Speedglas Wild-N-Pink Welding Helmet Review
The auto-darkening feature on this helmet is fantastic. It has light shade 3 and dark shades 8-13, which should cover you for all welding applications, whether light or heavy duty. The switching time is fast, so your eyes will always be properly protected from blinding, which in turn will allow you to continue with your work as quickly as possible.
Three sensitivity settings
Speedglas have very cleverly designed this helmet to have three different sensitivity settings. In real terms, this means that you’ll be able to use it for a wide range of uses, including TIG, MIG and stick welding. Being able to use the same helmet for all your jobs and applications is fantastic, because it will save you from spending out on buying different helmets for different purposes!
The viewing window on this helmet is larger than most, measuring in at 6.05 in². Straight away you’ll notice that this makes a huge difference when you actually get to work, because you’ll be able to see what you’re working on perfectly clearly.
Stays in place
You might have found that many welding helmets encounter the problem of falling down whenever you try to lift them up. Obviously, this is incredibly annoying, as a face shield that doesn’t stay up seriously gets in the way when you’re trying to inspect your work. However, this helmet from Speedglas doesn’t have such a problem. Not only does it just stay up, but it stays exactly where you want it to, making your life an awful lot less frustrating!
If you work in an environment where smoke, fumes and particles are a real problem, then you probably know that it can be difficult to breathe easily. Wearing a respirator is the ideal solution, but many welding helmets simply aren’t equipped to accommodate a respirator as well. Luckily, you can breathe freely and easily with this helmet, because it has been designed so that wearing it with a respirator is entirely possible. Bear in mind that you probably won’t have the pick of the market; this helmet is compatible with most 3M disposable particulate respirators, but you might be lucky and find another model that works, too.
Magnify your work
The lens that comes fitted is fairly standard, but this helmet does have the space to add in an extra magnifying lens. Having the possibility to use this helmet for close-up welding is a great feature which many other reasonably priced welding helmet manufacturers overlook.
Your neck and shoulders will really appreciate the fact that this helmet isn’t heavy. It doesn’t feel heavy, even after wearing it for several hours at a time, which reduces fatigue and makes the whole welding experience much more comfortable and pleasant.
Ready to use
When you buy a new piece of equipment, the last thing you want it to spend a lot of time unpacking it, putting it together, setting it up and figuring out how to use it. Luckily, you don’t have to worry about wasting your time in this way with this helmet. It comes fully assembled and ready to use, so all you need to do is take it out the box, then get to work! Being able to use this helmet so quickly will only save time and increase productivity.
Indoors or outdoors
Some welding helmets don’t really hold up to being used in damp or wet environments, which usually means having to buy a second helmet for use outside. This helmet offers a great alternative, because it has actually been designed to be used both indoors and outdoors. Not only does this mean you won’t have to buy a separate helmet, but you’ll also be able to move between different environments and locations without needing to remove your helmet!
If you’re looking for a welding helmet that’s more feminine than most standard men’s models, this one really delivers. It’s been made in a bright pink color, which will really stand out in your workshop! It might not be to everyone’s taste, but it certainly is prettier and more eye-catching than something in plain, boring black!
Some wearers have mentioned that the headband which holds this helmet in place isn’t really comfortable to wear. Adjusting the headband can alleviate some of the problem, but it’s still difficult to solve entirely. That said, this issue is usually a personal one – as it depends a lot on an individual’s head shape, just because one person feels discomfort doesn’t mean you’ll suffer the same way!
The air flow in and around this helmet is quite poor. There is no ventilation, so instead of hot air being drawn out from the helmet and away from your face, it tends to linger under the face shield. As a result, the lens can fog up quite easily, which might mean a lot of stopping and starting while you cool down and wait for the lens to clear. However, as this is not a problem with the actual design or functionality of the helmet itself, it might be something that you’re willing to overlook.

Speedglas toolbox label and a Speedglas welding beanie
You can’t deny that this striking helmet looks really good, so it’s great for anyone who wants something aimed at the female market. The fact that it does actually offer adequate protection as well is really appealing; Speedglas have clearly given considerable attention to quality as well as aesthetics.
However, in terms of specifications and features, this helmet is not exceptional when compared to many others on the market. It seems that you’re paying for the style, pink color and a good brand name, but if these are your requirements then it will be money well spent!
